"American Horror Story" uncorked its most raunchy season to date. Starring Matt Bomer and Lady Gaga, "Hotel" rolled-out an intense, almost nightmarish first hour last Wednesday on FX. Co-creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk managed to set the bar higher towards delivering a story aroused by sex, addiction, and murder.
The premiere titled “Checking-In” immediately caught the attention of the critics, focusing heavily on the back-to-back depiction of violence and eerie introduction of the characters.
Vanity Fair thought that "Hotel" is the worst season of the FX anthology, stressing out that the provocative elements that round up the premiere were just downright offensive. “Always a juvenile, antisocial show, A.H.S. reached what I hope is its nadir with the Hotel premiere, a confusingly paced, self-indulgent episode that managed to offend in myriad ways,” the publication said.
In the contrary, Murphy’s latest offering did not get one bit of cynicism from The Verge. Every aspect of Hotel that touched upon immorality and profound aspects of human life have been regarded as one of Murphy’s best creation.
“The overall result feels like a whacked-out speedball of sex, death, heartbreak, and longing that isn’t just scary and entertaining — I found it to be the single best introductory episode of AHS since the original pilot from Murder House”, the site enthused.
Meanwhile, viewers are in for another horrific turn of events next week. The Futon Critic has shared that the second episode will find Lady Gaga’s The Countess getting her eyes on a model. As to how she demonstrates her interests and motives is certainly something fans should look forward to.
American Horror Story continues to push the borders of entertainment in its own bizarre yet deeply-moving concepts. Season 5’s Hotel, albeit the naysayers’ harsh remarks, is just one hard proof that the industry is constantly evolving. As to how it harnesses it strengths in every episode, is completely up to its showrunners.
American Hotel Story: Hotel airs every Wednesday at 10PM on FX.
