'Tyrant' Season 3 Renewal: FX Sets 10 Episodes For The Gideon Raff-Helmed Drama's Third Run

The family saga of the Al-Fayeeds will continue. FX has officially renewed "Tyrant" for a third season, the cable network has announced. The political drama, created by Gideon Raff, will resume sometime in 2016 with a total of 10 episodes.

As reported by The Futon Critic, the renewal comes after the successful run of its sophomore season. “Tyrant’s second season took the show to a new level thanks to the skill and direction of Howard, Chris and Glenn and their creative team, the exceptional cast and a story steeped in family, loyalty and intrigue. We look forward to the next chapter and a sensational third season of Tyrant,” FX Networks and FX Productions president Eric Schrier said.

The efforts of the creative team yield a successful turn, as "Tyrant" continued to offer consistent strong numbers for FX. It was able to establish stability on its Tuesday 10PM berth for 12-weeks straight. “Tyrant in its sophomore season averaged 1.2 million total weekly viewers, which swelled to 2.47 mil with DVR playback folded in,” TV Line cited in a report.

Starring Adam Ryner and Ashraf Barhom, "Tyrant" manages to maintain its gritty storylines week-to-week by encapsulating intrigue and suspense at the same time. “The series revolves around an unassuming American family drawn into the inner workings of a turbulent fictional Middle Eastern nation. Bassam “Barry” Al-Fayeed, the younger son of the war-torn country’s dictator, ends a self-imposed 20-year exile to return to his homeland,” Deadline wrote.

After airing a successful second season last month, FX has granted "Tyrant" a third season pickup. The new season’s 10-episode run will be launched sometime in 2016. With regards to season 3’s start of production, the cable network has yet to announce its official date. Casting additions and other developments are also still under wraps for now.
