'Transformers 5' is confirmed to be in the works. Toy company Hasbro reveals at least 10 more years for the franchise including plans for 6th, 7th and 8th sequels. Michael Bay is speculated to direct and produce the fifth film with Mark Wahlberg reprising his role as Cade Yeager.
According to Den of Geek, Paramount and Hasbro rounded up a group of writers to help with putting up a strategy for future 'Transformers' films. Hasbro president Stephen Davis revealed that their collaboration with Paramount proved to be a success and that at least four possible future films are finally confirmed.
Davis made the announcement at MIP Junior in Cannes saying that leading screenwriters, headed by Akiva Goldsman of 'A Beautiful Mind' fame, plotted out the next 10 years in the franchise during a three-month process. He added, "Similarly, we are doing the same in television and in digital. So stay tuned, Transformers 5 is on its way, and 6 and 7 and 8."
It was reported by io9.com that those present in the writer's room were Andrew Barrer & Gabriel Ferrari of 'Ant-Man', Robert Kirkman of 'The Walking Dead', Art Marcum and Matt Holloway of 'Iron Man', Jeff Pinkner of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', Zak Penn of 'X-Men: The Last Stand', Ken Nolan of 'Black Hawk Down', Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Christina Hodson of 'Black List', Steven DeKnight of 'Daredevil' and Lindsey Beer.
Michael Bay directed the first through fourth installments in the series but has not yet officially confirmed whether he will be back to helm and produce the fifth sequel. According to Variety, the big-budget director posted a message on his personal Twitter account last September 18, 2015 announcing his meeting with executive producer Steven Spielberg. The tweet read, "Re: directing TF5. No, it's not official. I have not committed to any idea as of yet. Just met with Steven and we are discussing."
Mark Wahlberg starred in the fourth film 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' in place of original mainstay Shia LaBeouf, who didn't get to reprise his role as Sam Witwicky. He was joined by fellow cast mates Peter Cullen, John Goodman, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Ken Watanabe, Sophia Myles and Nicola Peltz. Although the film received generally negative reviews from critics, it managed to earn $1.1 billion in the box office.
Wahlberg confirmed his involvement in 'Transformers 5'. He would reprise his role as Cade Yeager, a single father, mechanic and struggling inventor. The fifth film is scheduled to be released some time in 2017 and is the latest addition to the Transformers cinematic universe.
