'Prometheus 2' director Ridley Scott confirmed that the official running title for his sequel will be 'Alien: Paradise Lost'. Although he admitted that the film won't connect with the 'Alien' franchise until the fourth installment, Scott seemed to have stirred up and confused audiences with the speculated marketing move.
According to io9.com, Scott reportedly planned to make three more sequels for his science-fiction thriller film that first came out in theaters in 2012. The famed English director announced that the running title for his upcoming sequel will be 'Alien: Paradise Lost'.
He explained, "Well actually really, it's gonna be called 'Alien: Paradise Lost... So 'Prometheus 2's' not really gonna be...you know the poem? I doubt you've ever been through it, have you? The poem is a book, 'Paradise Lost.' It sounds intellectual, but there's a similarity to it and that's where it stops."
'Paradise Lost' was an epic poem by the 17th-century poet John Milton. The classical piece first published in 1667 centered on the Biblical fall of man through the banishment of Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden after they succumbed to the temptation of the devil.
Scott admitted in an interview with HeyUGuys that the upcoming film will be more of a prequel to 1979's 'Alien' and that the allusion to Milton's work was intentional since it will contain similarities with regards to mythos and origin. It was also reported that Scott's planned series of films will eventually lead up to the first ever 'Alien' film, which he directed himself.
Director Neill Blomkamp is attached to helm the fifth installment in the 'Alien' series - and therein lies the basis for general fan confusion. It was previously reported that Scott demanded the delay of Blomkamp's project under 20th Century Fox in order to put out 'Prometheus 2' first, according to /Film. Further rumors emerged that the moves have been part of a more intricate marketing ploy for an entire Alien-Prometheus shared universe.
Scott revealed that although his 'Prometheus' films will connect to the 'Alien' series, it will not be evident in his upcoming film. Instead, it may happen in the next succeeding films - particularly 'Prometheus 4'.
'Prometheus 2' or 'Alien: Paradise Lost' is the science-fiction thriller follow-up to the 2012 film of the same name. The first film precedes the timeline of events in 'Alien'. It received generally positive reviews and earned $403 million in the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
