It has been months since the last confirmed 'The Haunted Mansion' update, where it left the public with Ryan Gosling's name attached to the Guillermo del Toro movie. Both Gosling and Del Toro have been busy with their respective projects. As both wrap up these commitments, will 'The Haunted Mansion' be next in their list?
Del Toro has been busy with his movie 'Crimson Peak,' which comes out this October 16. According to The Wall Street Journal, his latest film is not a horror film, unlike 'The Haunted Mansion'. 'Crimson Peak' is a Gothic romance "first and foremost." Master of horror, author Stephen King, described Del Toro's craft in 'Crimson Peak' as lush, like the colorful Edgar Allan Poe adaptations American International Pictures made in the 1950s and '60s.
King also commented earlier that the film was terrifying. With Del Toro's expertise in the grit of suspense and horror, many fans can look forward to 'The Haunted Mansion'. However, it doesn't seem like the director is following up his Gothic romance offering with yet another movie with a haunted abode. According to Screen Crush, Del Toro has no 'The Haunted Mansion' update, but he talked about another film on his plate 'Silver.' From the looks of it, 'The Haunted Mansion' may be left gestating for a little longer, as is the case for most of his big studio projects.
Meanwhile, Gosling has wrapped up filming musical romance La La Land alongside Emma Stone. The Daily Mail UK reported that 'The Haunted Mansion' actor teams up with Stone for the 3rd time in the big screen, previously pairing up in Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad. Like with Del Toro, there is no 'The Haunted Mansion' update from Gosling himself, but his upcoming filming schedule remains free as La La Land ended. Should filming for 'The Haunted Mansion' be scheduled, the actor may hopefully jump in right away.
While Del Toro and Gosling are concluding their commitments to current projects, 'The Haunted Mansion' doesn't seem to be in the immediate plan for both. This has caused many to doubt if the film is pushing through anytime in the hopefully near future.
Given the history of many Del Toro films that take years before they come to fruition, if they ever do, 'The Haunted Mansion' seem to be headed this way. With any luck, the next 'The Haunted Mansion' update should show concrete progress and prove these doubts wrong.
