Street Fighter 5 Confirmed to Feature a Far More Unique Story Content ; New Characters for 2nd Beta on Oct 22 Announced

When Capcom's fighting video game Street Fighter 5 launches next year, it will be featuring a unique story content that is far different from its predecessors.Meanwhile, the game developer has also announced the new characters for the 2nd beta happening on October 22.

Street Fighter 5 producer Matt Dahlgren was asked in an interview with Hip Hop Gamer if Capcom will continue their style of storytelling the way they do it with previous Street Fighter games. Game Spot noted that the Japanese game developer may get some ounce of inspiration from other competition titles such as NetherRealm Studios' cinematic approach style of storytelling with Mortal Kombat X.

Dahlgren, without delving into details, stated new things about the game that fans should look forward to saying, "I can't reveal specifics on our story, but I can say we are going to be doing things differently this time around...We're definitely paying attention to what our competitors are doing and want to raise the bar."

He further stated, "Our story content is going to be unique and different from any previous Street Fighter game."

Cinema Blend observed that this development is somewhat interesting. It also mentioned that past Street Fighter video games were pretty lousy wherein the detailed stories outside the game for each of the characters are rarely seen. There was only few pieces of information during interlude telling what the fighters were doing or what they were on to and it doesn't show any reason at all why the characters were traveling the world and fighting.

Moreover, Capcom has announced that the next Street Fighter 5 beta will begin on October 22 for PS4 and on October 24 for PC. This beta will support a cross-platform play between PS4 and PC platforms.

A list of characters for the beta has been provided and it is noted that characters from the previous test will not be available anymore. These are Ryu, Chun-Li, Cammy, Birdie, Nash, and M. Bison.

Here is the list of the fighters for the second Street Fighter 5 Beta:

  • Ken
  • Necalli
  • Vega
  • R. Mika
  • Rashid (available starting October 23)
  • Karin (available starting October 24)

Street Fighter 5 is developed exclusively for PS4 and PC via strategic partnership between Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. and Capcom, with cross-platform play between both systems. The next-gen fighting game does not have a confirmed release date yet, however, it is expected to be released on or before March 31, 2016.
