AMC Renews ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ For Season 3; Show Premieres Next Summer

AMC’s period drama about computers circa 1980 will return. Last week, the cable network has officially renewed "Halt and Catch Fire" for a third season. The 10-episode new season is slated to premiere in the summer of 2016.

The new bunch of episodes of Halt and Catch Fire will move forward with a few changes. According to Deadline, co-creators Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rogers will now serve as the showrunners. They will replace Jonathan Lisco who took over the show for seasons 1 and 2. “After wrapping Season 2, Lisco segued to Animal Kingdom, a drama project he had had in the works at John Wells Prods. for more than four years,” the site shared.

The renewal of the computer drama was not an easy decision for the cable network according to Variety. But after lengthy considerations, AMC has still granted the series a season 3 pickup. “’Halt’ was saved by the fact that it had a steady core viewership that was largely upscale, and it enjoyed strong momentum with critics in season two after making shifts in its storytelling focus,” the publication wrote.

To this end, AMC programming Joel Stillerman released a statement via The Hollywood Reporter saying that the upcoming third season is not being planned as Halt’s last run. “This is a show with a lot of wind left in its sails and compelling story. We made a move to own our own content a few years back and without that, it's worth noting that at least in our world, I don't think this decision would have been possible. We like viewers believe that when we find something that's working, we should stick with it,” he said.

Fans of Halt and Catch Fire may now rejoice. AMC has officially granted the period drama a third season renewal. Casting additions and beginning of production are yet to be announced. Meanwhile, viewers may now look forward to another suspenseful turn of events next year.
