The Mindy Project continued to tackle the early stages of being a family on this week’s episode. Following Danny’s request to become a stay-at-home mom, Mindy finally took a stab at motherhood – an arc which later resulted with her giving up and enlisting Danny for help. Clearly, Mindy cannot handle the craziness that comes from being a full-time mother.
Raising a newborn is not exactly a new territory seen in rom-coms, but "The Mindy Project" was able to heavily explore this element in the most relatable execution. “The show isn’t making any big, sweeping political comments about the gender disparity of stay-at-home parents versus working parents, but it does highlight an issue that is rarely illuminated on television: Raising a child is hard”, Hypable cited in a recap.
With all her efforts to become the classic housewife, Mindy just knows it in herself that she’s not wired to be that kind of woman. Finally facing the truth, Mindy Kaling’s character decided it’s time to give Danny a taste of his own medicine. “Danny keeps digging himself into a bigger hole, thinking he could easily be a stay-at-home dad. So the two take a bet, and on Monday, Danny takes care of Leo while Mindy goes back to work,” Entertainment Weekly wrote.
Just as Danny thought he can do it all and become the hero of the family, the ugly truth reared its head. Capturing the role of a stay-at-home mom needs help, tons of it. The writers managed to rub this hard fact to Danny later in the episode. As previously mentioned by Vulture, “It turns out that Ma came halfway through the day to help Danny, then left before Mindy got home”.
Later adding the bigger problems that have arrived for the Lahiri/Castellano household. “Mindy is about to confess to her desire to go back to work when Danny gets a call: His father has had a heart attack.”
On that note, it seems that Papa Castellano’s ailment presented a resolution for all parties involved. Mindy will get back to work, Ma will take care of Leo, and Danny will attend to his sick dad.
On the fifth week of "The Mindy Project", viewers saw Mindy’s attempt to portray the role of being a full-time mom. Unfortunately, she couldn’t resist her innate desire to be a career woman. When Danny steps-in, Mindy is shocked to learn that he enlisted his mother’s help to deal with the house chores.
