The first official trailer of "Shadowhunters" has arrived. ABC Family has released the action-packed trailer last week, offering book readers a bunch of supernatural elements drawn straight from the "Mortal Instruments" series. The cable network has also announced that the new Katherine McNamara-starred drama will premiere on Jan. 12 at 9/8c.
As first released via Buzzfeed last week, the one-minute clip featured the introduction of Clary Fray and her destiny to become a part of the Shadowhunters aka the “Supernatural Fight Club”. Other highlights from the trailer include special effects, good-looking cast members and some engaging fight sequences.
In other developments, showrunner Ed Decter has shared via TV Line that viewers should expect for a “few outsiders” appearing on the hotly-anticipated book adaptation:
“What we tried to do is honor everything Cassie [Clare] created, but still try to throw in some surprises for the Mortal Instruments fans,” Decter revealed.
He also noted that characters from other Cassie Clare-written material will be making an appearance.
Moreover, Decter also allowed that the TV series version will not be mimicking the book from every angle in terms of its timeline. “We are not following the books one to one with the seasons. However, what we’re doing is we’re borrowing. We may set something up that we know happens in season 6, but start setting it up now,” Decter said in a report from Entertainment Weekly.
Later adding that they have plotted "Shadowhunters" by focusing heavily on the arcs that can be more interesting for fans. “We borrow from all the books and we’ll be tracking along with the major giant story points that fans want to see. And then the new viewers, we very carefully get there so they understand what’s going on. They don’t have to be a super fan to enjoy the show,” he continued.
Shadowhunters is slated to premiere on Jan. 12 at 9/8c on ABC Family.
