The much-anticipated Season 9 episode of "Doctor Who" on BBC gives viewers their first glimpse of Maisie Williams, who mainly plays Arya Stark in "Game of Thrones." The Bristol-born actress plays a Viking girl, Ashildr, in "Doctor Who" Season 9's 'The Girl Who Died.' Though many were ecstatic about her guest role in the British sci-fi drama, others found it too similar to her character, Arya Stark, in "Game of Thrones."
William's character, Ashildr, according to BT, is a young girl in a Viking village where the warriors have all been killed. After Ashildr interferes with a dangerous alien warrior species, the Doctor and Clara have just hours to turn farmers into fighters to be able to save the village from further destruction.
According to an article from Forbes, being in a Viking village, the set up is very much like "Game of Thrones" and throwing in Maisie Williams as a Viking girl, makes her very much like Arya Stark. The author reiterates Ashildr's character as "a spunky young girl, destined to go far, but her hot temper gets her into trouble." The description is pretty much similar to Arya Stark as a lot of people are saying. Though many still think that Maisie Williams did a good job, she is still a very talented young actress. Perhaps, people just can't help but compare the "stark" similarities.
In the end of the episode, Ashildr dies but is brought back to life using Mire technology. This made her an "immortal hybrid." Perhaps there will be more to Ashildr's character in 'The Girl Who Lives.' Let's see if Maisie Williams can "resurrect" her character from last week's criticisms.
In the meantime, Den of Geek, provides a synopsis for this week's episode, "The Woman Who Lived," in which Williams will also be appearing in:
England, 1651. The deadly Highwayman 'The Nightmare' and his sidekick stalk the dark streets of London. But when they find loot that's not of this world, they come face to face with the Doctor. Who is the Nightmare in league with? And can the Doctor avoid the hangman's noose and protect Earth from a devilish betrayal?
Watch out for the next "Doctor Who" episode this Saturday on BBC.
