Will the werewolves be coming to your TV screens? George RR Martin’s ‘Skin Trade’ werewolf novella could soon be on Cinemax

The "Skin Trade" by George RR Martin might soon be the next big series to look forward to next year. The werewolf novella was optioned by Cinemax for a pilot run. So far, the proposed TV show is still at the pilot episode writing stage. According to Martin, if Cinemax approves of the script, then they will produce the pilot and maybe get the series running. "You never know where things will end...," says Martin.

Script writing duties for the pilot was granted to Kalinda Vazquez (Once Upon a Time, Prison Break, Nikita). Martin says that he was "blown away" by Kalinda's take on the characters and story which was ultimately the reason why she was chosen.

The "Skin Trade" by George RR Martin is a "werewolf noir" originally published in 1988 which was one of the short stories included in the horror anthology, "Night Vision". Other works included were by Stephen King and Dan Simmons.

"Skin Trade" is set in a crumbling industrial city following the story of Willie Flambeaux who is a collections agent and a werewolf and his good comrade, Randi Wade, who is a private investigator who just unmasked a grave secret behind a string of gruesome murders in their city. Martin posted on his blog, "I have always thought there was a TV series (or maybe a feature film) in Willie Flambeaux and Randi Wade," Martin also revealed that "we're a few decades late" because "Skin Trade" was actually the story he was trying to pitch back in 1991, but "Doorways" got the spot on ABC which was unfortunately shelved after its pilot release.

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" fans might get a bit worried about these developments, but Martin stressed he won't be involved with the show if the series would eventually push through. "I have this book to finish. You know the one." he says.

Fans of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series creator would definitely look forward to this show, and looking at its latest developments--werewolves just might be coming sooner than 'winter.'
