"Minority Report" is eyeing on a dark future. After airing its third episode, the futuristic drama starring Meagan Good and Nick Zano, has received some bad news. FOX has reduced its episode order from 13 to 10, the network has announced two weeks ago.
As reported by Entertainment Weekly, the series might already be on its way to get cancelled before even airing its first season finale. “The first season of the Steven Spielberg-produced sci-fi drama was originally slated for 13 episodes; Fox announced the cut Friday. The show’s 10th episode, which had been scheduled as the fall finale, will now serve as the season finale and possibly series finale,” the publication wrote.
According to Deadline, the possible cancellation might be rooted from Minority Report’s unsatisfactory performance from the pilot up until the third installment. “A follow-up to the hit Steven Spielberg-Tom Cruise 2002 movie,Minority Report launched to lukewarm reviews and soft ratings, hitting a low of 0.7 adults 18-49 Live+same day rating in its most recent third airing”.
For fans who are wondering as to whether the story of Minority Report’s first season will not go full-circle due to the cut back, it appears that it won’t totally be an issue. Showrunner Max Borenstein has addressed this matter in a report from UPI. He explained, “It hasn't actually had any impact on us creatively because our plan has always been to do 10 episodes. The three, which we hadn't really done any work on, they were always part of the second kind of order. It was more of a, like, technical kind of thing," the EP said.
He also allowed that fans do have something exciting to look forward to in the last two episodes. "We were always, and still are, airing our 10 in a row and then there is a break. And, so, that's exactly what we have planned and those two episodes -- 9 and 10 -- we're really excited about in terms of where it takes us in the serialized arc and this sort of, I think, very exciting ending, cliffhanger that it leaves us on," he teased.
To this end, fans who are already growing to love the show might definitely hope for some good news in the weeks to come.
"Minority Report" airs every Monday at 9PM on FOX.
