'The Lego Batman Movie' is an upcoming animated comedy-action film starring Will Arnett, Zach Galifianakis and Michael Cera. Rosario Dawson is the latest to join 'The Lego Movie' spin-off. She will lend her voice to Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl.

According to Hollywood.com, multi-award winning actress-singer Rosario Dawson has been cast to voice Barbara Gordon a.k.a. Batgirl in the upcoming animated spin-off of 'The Lego Movie'. Dawson is no stranger to lending her voice to several on-screen characters.

She voiced Artemis in 2009's 'Wonder Woman', Velvet Von Black in 'The Haunted World of El Superbeasto', Nyx in 'Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast', Wonder Woman in 'Justice League: The Throne of Atlantis' and Elaris in 'Ratchet and Clark'.

Dawson will be joining Will Arnett who will be returning to voice Bruce Wayne a.k.a. Batman. According to The Guardian, Arnett played Batman in the upcoming films 2014 predecessor. His character proved to be widely popular among audiences that his standalone spin-off film is poised to debut before an actual sequel for 'The Lego Movie' comes out.

Other members of the cast include Michael Cera and Zach Galifianakis, who will be playing Dick Grayson a.k.a. Robin and the Joker respectively. The animated action-comedy film is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, best known for his best-selling novels 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' as well as 'Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter' - both of which have already been turned into full feature films.

According to Cinema Blend, the spin-off will have a hilarious side plot involving Batman's frustration as an artist. The announcement was revealed by producers Christopher Miller and Phil Lord during an Ask Me Anything session on Reddit. Although both confirmed that the film won't be a musical, unlike its predecessor, Lord wrote, "I can tell you that Lego Batman's inner life as a frustrated artist will be fully explored..."

Arnett lent his voice to a song on 'The Lego Movie' entitled 'Batman's Song (Untitled Self Portrait)' where his character Batman belted out what seemed to be random lyrics about himself against an industrial rock sounding melody. It was fun use of a minute and eight seconds of footage.

'The Lego Batman Movie' is an upcoming film directed by Chris McKay. It is scheduled to be released on February 10, 2017. The preceding film, 'The Lego Movie', proved to be a fan favorite earning generally positive reviews as well as $468 million in the box office.
