'Friday the 13th' is an upcoming remake of the iconic slasher film franchise from the 1980's. Its release date has been pushed back to 2017 although it was initially scheduled for release on May 2016. Writer Nick Antosca of 'Hannibal' fame is attached to pen the script for the latest film in the series.
According to Screen Rant, the upcoming reboot of the classic American horror franchise was moved from its original scheduled debut on May 2016 to January 2017. Paramount Pictures is currently attached for the distribution of the film.
The latest reboot will follow 2009's attempt at revitalizing the age-old series that featured the fictional mass-murder Jason Voorhees, who takes revenge after drowning as a young boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp's staff. The original film released in 1980 was written by Victor Miller and directed by Sean S. Cunningham.
According to MovieWeb, the 'Friday the 13th' remake may explore the reasons behind Jason's alleged immortality. Producer Brad Fuller announced that although their team is still currently working on the new script, he hinted that the killer would come back to life even after being killed towards the end of the movie.
He said, "There's always been this supernatural aspect to these movies. It defies logic that, you see Jason get killed in every movie, including ours, the 2009 one. And then he comes back and no one's ever really investigated what that is. So that's something that I think about a little bit. Like it is supernatural, but what is he? Those are the things that we're toying with. Nothing has been decided. But those type of things: How does he always come back?"
Writer Nick Antosca is attached to work on the draft for the upcoming horror film. According to Forbes, the screenwriter and literary fiction author has done work for the popular television series 'Hannibal', 'The Player', 'Believe' and 'Teen Wolf'. He is also involved with the 2016 horror-thriller film 'The Forest' starring Natalie Dormer and Taylor Kinney.
'Friday the 13th' is an upcoming horror-slasher film with David Bruckner attached to direct. It will be produced by Andrew Form and Brad Fuller and is currently in development. It follows the 2009 attempt with the same name, which received generally negative reviews yet earned $91 million at the box office.
Friday the 13th's new schedule for release is on January 13, 2017. It will coincide with the theatrical debut of 'Dark Tower', a live-action adaptation for the best-selling Stephen King novel of the same name.
