‘Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens’ Plot, News: Luke Skywalker turns evil? Mark Hamill pitched plot twist to director J.J. Abrams

'Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens' may have a surprising plot twist wherein Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker may return as the series' latest villain. Hamill reportedly pitched the idea to director J.J. Abrams.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Mark Hamill returns to his beloved role as Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, son to fallen Jedi knight Anakin Skywalker and Queen Padme Amidala of Naboo. Several theories have emerged of Luke's transformation as the latest bad guy. A video from 2005 had been pulled referenced showing Hamill talking about how wanted Luke to make a comeback as a villain.

Another article by NME quoted Hamill saying, "As an actor that would be more fun to play. I just thought that's the way it was going from when we finished ['The Empire Strikes Back']. I figured that's what will be the pivotal moment. I'll have to come back, but it will be I have Han Solo in my crosshairs and I'll be about to kill him or about to kill the Princess or about to kill somebody that we care about. It's an old cornball movie, like World War II movies." Luke first appeared as a central protagonist in George Lucas' original trilogy that first debuted in 1977.

The 64-year old actor, writer, producer and director went on to other projects as well as ventured out to voice acting throughout his storied career but remains best known for his 'Star Wars' character. He has earned several accolades including the Saturn Award for Best Actor as well as the BAFTA Award for Best Performer at the British Academy Games Award.

According to Polygon, Hamill talked about his evil Luke plan on Kevin Smith's 'Dinner for Five'. He admitted that he did share the pitch to director George Lucas before. But it seemed as if he did so with J.J. Abrams as well, the current director of 'Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens'.

There is no confirmation whether J.J. Abrams followed through with the pitch. Details of Hamill's reappearance and role in the series have been kept carefully under wraps.

'Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens' is an upcoming action-adventure and science-fiction film scheduled to be released on December 18, 2015. The sequel is said to follow 30 years after the events of 1983's 'Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi'. It stars Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Domnhall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, Gwendoline Christie, Simon Pegg, Daisy Ridley, Andy Serkis, Adam Driver, Peter Mayhew and Lupita Nyong'o.
