Reign Season 3 Spoilers, Update: Francis To Die in Season 2, Amy Brenneman Returns As Mary’s Mother and More

By

The CW’s Reign is losing a major character in its current third season. The sad news about the fate of Toby Regbo’s character has been confirmed by creator and executive producer Laurie McCarthy weeks ago. Moving forward, fans of the period drama will see Amy Brenneman reprising her role as Mary’s mother, Mary de Guise. She is slated to appear in episode four of season three titled, “The Price”.

As first reported by Entertainment Weekly, Toby Regbo’s King Francis will soon face his death on Reign season three.

“I wanted people to get used to it — there was no way around it in the storytelling. We’ve done shocking deaths and that’s not the tone of this story”, showrunner Laurie McCarthy explained.

“I wanted it to be an emotional journey that we all went on and that we could all feel the highs and lows of, and I wanted it to be a love story. I didn’t want it to be something that shocked the fans or really anybody. I needed to process it, too,” she continued.

In new developments, Amy Brenneman is set to reprise her role as Mary de Guise on the period drama’s November 6th episode.

According to the episode description shared by The Futon Critic, Mary (Adelaide Kane) gets a message from her ailing mother about an urgent matter happening in Scotland. For her mother’s security, Mary enlists the help of her husband Francis.

No word yet on whether Mary de Guise will be seen interacting with other characters in French Court.

As for Reign’s standing among its competitors, it appears that the show might be one of the candidates to get the axe this season.

TV Line reported that the Adelaide Kane-starred drama has hit a series low on its most recent outing. It drew 930,000 total viewers and a 0.2 in rating.

It’s still too early to tell whether the show will get the axe, but fans should definitely consider this as a warning sign.
