'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming fantasy-adventure film featuring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role of the Sorcerer Supreme. Marvel president Kevin Feige confirmed that his character's origin story will be explored as well as MCU's realm of magic and mysticism. Rachel McAdams is speculated to play Linda Carter a.k.a. Night Nurse alongside Cumberbatch.
According to Comic Book, Feige assured fans that the newest addition to the MCU will feature Doctor Strange's transition as an arrogant neurosurgeon into a powerful superhero. The announcement comes despite earlier reports that 'Doctor Strange' won't be an origin story.
Feige said, "Doctor Strange has one of the best, most classic, most unique origin stories of any hero we have, so why wouldn't we do that? That was sort of always the plan. How you tell that origin, perhaps there are ways to twist it or play with that, but for the most part, it's a gift when the comics have something with such clarity of story and of character. That doesn't always happen in the comics, and when it does, you use it."
Another article from Outer Places pointed out that origin stories have developed a kind of bad reputation among audiences. Feige said that this boredom may be coming from overly redundant origin stories told over and over again, or following a predictable pattern. He stressed that the opportunity to tell the story of the Sorcerer Supreme is one that couldn't be passed up.
Rachel McAdams has joined the cast and is speculated to be playing a character named Linda Carter a.k.a. Night Nurse. According to ScreenCrush, Night Nurse has a history with the Sorcerer Supreme as well as superheroes including Daredevil and Captain America. Her mission was to provide medical and health care to the superhero community as a way of paying forward a good deed after a masked vigilante saved her life one night.
'Doctor Strange' is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film directed by Scott Derrickson. It is a live-action adaptation of Marvel's comic book character of the same name. The film, intended to explore the mysterious supernatural realm of the MCU, is scheduled to be released on November 4, 2016.
