'The Hunstman' features two of the much sought-after actresses in Hollywood. Emily Blunt steps up for female filmmakers as well as reveals her early fears. Co-star Jessica Chastain admits that she loves challenging roles and seeks to inspire women.
According to the Belfast Telegraph, Blunt recalled that she was the most terrified child. She said that almost everything scared her and that she had to overcome an embarrassing stutter. She has all but allayed these childhood fears especially now that she is known as a certified action star with roles in films such as 'Sicario', 'Edge of Tomorrow' and 'The Adjustment Bureau'.
Blunt is joining returning stars Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron in the sequel to the 2012 film 'Snow White and the Huntsman' that was directed by Rupert Sanders. She is portraying Freya, an ice queen, in cahoots with Theron's villainous Queen Ravenna.
The 32-year old breakout star also admitted that Hollywood, a masculine-run industry, must pave the way for more female filmmakers. She said, "I personally feel the media exacerbate the problem, the more we talk, the more they put a stamp on the issue. We need to create more programmes for female film-makers, that's what we need to do, we should stop having so many ceremonies about women in film and need to start creating programs."
Chastain, who has been cast as Scottish warrior Sara, also expressed her desire to play challenging roles as well as ones that would inspire young women. According to Female First, the Oscar-nominee admitted that she chooses roles purposefully - ones that empower and motivate her female viewers.
She recently starred in Guillermo del Toro's gothic romance film, 'Crimson Peak', as the antagonistic Lucille Sharp as well as in Ridley Scott's 'The Martian' where she portrays a geologist and NASA expedition leader Melissa Lewis. According to the Daily Democrat, Chastain is vocal about choosing and researching her roles carefully. She admitted that she is quite fond of challenging, rich characters despite humble expectations for herself.
'The Huntsman' is an upcoming dark fantasy and adventure film directed by Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. It is intended to be the prequel to Rupert Sanders' film 'Snow White and the Huntsman'. It is scheduled to be released on April 22, 2016.
