‘Green Lantern Corps’ News: Chris Pine explains dropping Hal Jordan in favor of ‘Wonder Woman’; DeMark Thompson wants John Stewart role

'Green Lantern Corps' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the comic book series of the same name. Chris Pine explained his reason for dropping the offer to play Hal Jordan in favor of starring in a lesser role in 'Wonder Woman'. DeMark Thompson joins the set of hopeful actors eager to play John Stewart.

DeMark Thompson, known for his roles on hit television shows 'Veep' and 'House of Cards', expressed his desire to play the third Green Lantern John Stewart. According to Cosmic Book News, the actor collaborated with director Kawai Matthews to create a teaser featuring himself as the Green Lantern. His twitter account even bears the Green Lantern logo.

Thompson is only one of the many actors interested in the part. He joins Tyrese Gibson and Lance Gross in competing for the possible lead role in DC's new film. In the comic books, Thompson was an architect chosen by the Guardians of the Universe as a backup for Hal Jordan despite the latter's objections.

John Stewart and Hal Jordan are two of the most possible lead characters to represent the titular Green Lantern. According to Moviepilot, John had long been a fan favorite for a big-screen adaptation. Fans reportedly pushed for the character to be portrayed in the first live-action adaptation back in 2011 instead of Ryan Reynold's Hal.

According to ScienceFiction.com, Chris Pine was reportedly in the running to play the new Hal for 'Green Lantern Corps' but turned the offer down to play a smaller part as Gal Gadot's love interest in 'Wonder Woman'. Pine took the role of Steve Trevor saying, "What excites me most is to work in a movie with a superhero woman. With a woman in the lead role. I am teamed with this intelligent, beautiful and strong woman to defeat the villains and save humanity." He went on to praise his co-star as well as director Patty Jenkins.

'Green Lantern Corps' is a planned reboot of the Green Lantern cinematic series and is scheduled to be released on June 19, 2020. It is an science-fiction adventure film centered on a fictional peacekeeping entity tasked at protecting the universe from villainous intergalactic invaders.
