The Muppets Gets Primetime Slot with a Full Season on ABC

The success of its previous episodes paves the way for "The Muppets" to go full force on primetime. With the characters Miss Piggy and Kermit leading the pack in this new grown-up series, avid fans will see more of "The Muppets" on the small screen.

The series, produced by Bill Prady of The Big Bang Theory and Bob Kushell of 3rd Rock From The Sun, has garnered more viewers compared to last season's "Selfie".

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show is hailed as Tuesday's highest-rated new series for adults ages 18-49 and has improved the network's Tuesday slot by 69 percent among total viewers versus last season's short-lived series Selfie and 86 percent among adults under 50.

The new Muppet series offers a more mature storyline of the Muppet characters such as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and Gonzo. According to Screenrant, the series follows the behind-the-scenes of a late night talk show hosted by Miss Piggy with Kermit, who is now her ex-boyfriend, producing the show. The challenge for both characters is to keep the late night show afloat despite their personal issues.

The Muppets became the most loved characters of many children in the 70s, 80s and 90s. However, the new series deviates from the already established childhood characters as the series is not meant exactly for kids. In a post from Digital Trends, some parents believe that the nature of the show doesn't allow them to introduce to their young kids, similar to adult cartoons The Simpsons and The Family Guy.

As a tradition with all Muppets shows, there will be special guests appearing in the series. Among those who have already appeared in the show are Ed Helms, Kristin Chenoworth, Christina Applegate and Liam Hemsworth.

"The Muppets" series air every Tuesday nights at 8pm on ABC.
