There's an upcoming Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 version and it will introduce some new flight modes and Quantum Travel. These significant and fundamental changes seem to excite many gamers awaiting the release.
The Star Citizen update log states that "The flashiest new feature is the additional flight modes: Precision, Space Combat Maneuvers (SCM), and Cruise." These are IFCS profiles that are designed to focus the ship behaviors to achieve "close tolerance adjustments, combat actions, and long distance flight respectively."
Though a player can only use one of these flight modes at a time, coupled or decoupled together with the collection of flight assists may still be used for customize handling.
According to Lazy Gamer, the mode will function as a long-distance travel alternative over shorter routes which affect various ships in many different ways as spacecraft attains one-fifth section of the speed of light. The ship computer automatically pulls any player out of Quantum Travel when a possibility of collision is identified or if the ship contains downed shields.
Quantum Travel uses Quantum Drive that enables long-distance travel within short time periods, said PC Gamer. Any ship equipped with Quantum Drive can get a maximum velocity of 0.2c or one-fifth the speed of light.
Alpha 2.0 will also introduce changes in features as well as bug fixes. Some improvements are highly technical with terms such as "Ideal 3rd Order Velocity" and "Capped Exponentially Damped Motion."
While there is still no launch date set for the alpha 2.0 release, PC Gamer just shared a 16-minute video which shows game designer Pete Mackay together with physics programmer John Pritchett discussing some details about what's coming ahead.
Alpha 2.0 features may seem to be highly technical but some players still see them as part of the game's improvement. The new flight modes and Quantum Travel are believed to meet Star Citizen fans' expectations.
