Avalanche Studios, makers of Mad Max and Just Cause 3, just laid off around 24 staff following completion of projects. The staff were let go before the worldwide launch of Just Cause 3 in December.
In a statement reported by Game Informer, Avalanche admitted that they were unable to transition several staff from completed projects into the new ones.
"The transition between major projects is always challenging, especially for independent developers," said the rep from Avalanche. The studio explained that their situation have led them to let go of some of their developers.
However, they announced that their future plans to hire and assured their fans that this kind of events do not have any effect on their games and their doing their best to prevent this from happening again.
"We expect to keep hiring in the new year. This unfortunate event does not affect any of our current projects, and we're taking measures to avoid situations like this in the future."
Game Spot said that the primary developer on Mad Max was Avalanche's Stockholm studio and its New York office created Just Cause 3. Mad Max got published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Just Cause 3 was published by Square Enix. Game Spot believes that this action of post-completion downsizing is somehow expected among the video game development industry.
Earlier in the year, developer Avalanche also released PC hunting simulation The Hunter: Primal as well as Rumble City, a mobile strategy game for iOS and Android devices, said Euro Gamer.
While it seems to be the end of a rather busy working development period by Avalanche, their only confirmed project at the present is some development work for Square Enix focused on Final Fantasy 15.
The Just Cause 3 will be released on December 1. On the meantime, Avalanche Software has not update what project it will be working on next.
Completion of projects may be good to gamers but not to some game developers. Nevertheless, Just Cause 3 from Avalanche Studios is expected to be an excellent work from its staff.
