Google's new Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is officially coming to several Honor smartphones from Huawei. The company has recently announced which phones will be receiving the update.
Honor India rolled out a list of phones that will get the update in the country. This means that the update will just be for India-based phones until further notice.
The phones that are included are the Honor 4C, Honor 4X, Honor 6, Honor 6 Plus and the Honor 7. Honor India will send out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update starting in February 2016, according to NDTV.
More users are waiting for the new update to be rolled out onto their phones. However, the update will still need to pass through the manufacturers and mobile network carriers. There are some instances where the update will not launch on some devices at all.
Most phones that came out several years ago are yet to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Fortunately, there are newer ones that run the updated version out of the box.
Besides Honor, there are also other manufacturers that have already promised to roll out the new update. Some of these include Samsung, HTC, Sony and Motorola, according to 9 to 5 Google.
However, Honor India did not announce whether the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will come in their proprietary EMUI software. This means that Huawei would need more time to develop their own custom ROM for the Honor devices.
In addition, there are also reports that claim that there will be a beta test for the Honor 7. The test is said to start in a couple of weeks, according to the International Business Times.
Huawei also announced that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be coming to the Mate S, Mate 7, Ascend P8, Ascend P8max, Ascend G8, Ascend G7 and the Ascend G7 Plus.
Honor smartphone users will have to wait for further updates. The release date for the Andoid 6.0 Marshmallow update could still be delayed if there are complications.
