Last Sunday's episode of "The Leftovers" Season 2 offered a possible explanation to the Durst family's disappearance. Nora Durst is infamous for having her father, son and daughter all disappear during the Sudden Departure of last season. According to a researcher that scanned and studied her, her entire family disappeared because Nora is a lens.
Nora has come to the attention of scientists because aside from her immediate family's disappearance, the young girl who lived next door to her disappeared on the same day that Nora moved to town reports Bustle . The girl simply vanished into thin air even when the town was spared from the Sudden Departure phenomenon before. This made Nora being suspected of being a lens who according to the researcher is a person who, for whatever reason, amplifies the chances of Departures among those close to them.
Viewers also started to understand Erika Murphy more and what has been going through her mind including abandoning her family. Indiewire reports that Erika is a woman who has an aggressive and at-times violent husband, the pressure of being a mother in a picture-perfect town and with a hearing almost nonexistent without the help of her aids. It was revealed in the episode that her escape plan began even before Evie disappeared.
Meanwhile, the Murphys get a visit from George Brevity of the Department of Secondary Departures (DSD) to confirm Evie's disappearance was not another case of Departure reports IB Times. Nora attempted to coach Erika on how to handle his questions but this only allowed her own secrets to be exposed. Now, the two women and their families are pitted against each other.
The powerful revelations and secrets of Nora and Erika did not make two other moments in this episode of "The Leftovers" Season 2 less important. Matt started to build a following in a tourist camp outside of Jarden and Kevin's admission of seeing the ghost Patti to Nora. He has come to terms with the fact that Patti is not leaving and he further acknowledged his deteriorating mental health.
Nora's perceived sense of security seems to be shattering around her in "The Leftovers" Season 2.
