'Avatar 2' is an upcoming science-fiction fantasy film directed by James Cameron. The filmmaker revealed that the sequel will to his 2009 box office hit may explore other Na'vi cultures - some of which may be "seafaring". An artwork released allegedly by producer Jon Landau has been revealed as fake.
According to DNAindia.com, producer Jon Landau recently released a rough sketch of one of the characters for the sequel through his personal Twitter account @teamJonLandau. The image showed the face of a female Na'vi, a humanoid species indigenous to Pandora of the Alpha Centauri System. It was simply captioned 'Avatar 2' and nothing more.
Na'vi are portrayed as feline-like creatures that resemble slim, tall humans but differ in a sense that they have blue striped skin, pointed ears, tails and yellow eyes. They connect with other living organisms around them through a coil protruding from the back of their heads.
However, it was later reported that the both the image and the Landau Twitter account used to post the image was a fake. According to IGN, Twitter authorities have suspended the fraudulent account after demands of its removal from Landau himself.
According to Moviepilot, director James Cameron revealed that the sequel will explore a more underwater setting in Pandora and that more cultures of Na'vi will be discovered. Some of these cultures may possibly consist of a "seafaring" people. Cameron said, "The best inspiration I got for 'Avatar' 2 and 3 was dealing with the master navigator culture in Micronesia."
It was reported that Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be reprising their roles as Jake and Neytiri in 'Avatar 2'. So far, no other cast members have been confirmed. Some speculations point to the return of Sigourney Weaver's Dr. Grace Augustine in what is called a "transformative rebirth".
'Avatar 2' is the follow-up the 2009 film of the same name. Its predecessor earned $2.78 billion against a $237 budget, according to Box Office Mojo, making it Cameron's highest grossing film yet. The film won Academy Awards for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and Best Visual Effects.
