Opera partnered with 14 smartphone makers including Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi to launch data-saving Opera Max app. Opera Max offers users up to 60 percent mobile data savings when using Instagram, YouTube, and Netflix.

Opera is expanding from being a web browser to a data management company as it partnered with 14 device makers including Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi to launch Opera Max. The Opera Max app is Opera's latest data manager app that first debuted in August, reported Mobile & Apps.

Opera Max aims to provide more affordable mobile internet access by reducing data consumption rate on Android phones. AllAfrica reported that Opera Max enables users to save up to 60 percent mobile data when using Instagram, YouTube, and Netflix.

"Many users are wary of using mobile data for fear of spending too much or exceeding their data caps", said Sergey Lossev, Opera Max's Product Manager. We see OEMs responding to this and stepping up to lower the barrier to mobile internet access by providing a data-optimization solution on their devices."

Opera Max is expected to be warmly welcomed by internet consumers since there is an increasing use of data-heavy applications among them. Such apps include social media applications, news apps, and video and music streaming services.

Aside from connecting over 350 million internet users to content and services, Opera also allows advertisers and publishers build up their advertising businesses.

ZDNet reported that Opera is targeting to have over 100 million smartphones integrated with the data-saving app Opera Max. Lossey added, "Compression technology is the key to migrating the next billion mobile internet users to the smartphones, and solutions like Opera Max directly help users deal with the challenging mobile infrastructure and expensive data packages."

The smartphone makers that have partnered with Opera are Acer, Cherry Mobile, Evercoss, Fly, Hisense, Mobiistar, Micromax, Oppo, Prestigio, Samsung, Symphony, Tecno, TWZ, and Xiaomi. It was reported that Opera Max is available as a separate app on Google Play Store but also appears as a supporting app for Android smartphones with existing integrated data-saving features.
