'Frozen 2' may contain LGBT themes. The sequel is said to retain strong female leads and is speculated to focus more on Elsa and her character development. Chris Buck and his co-director Jennifer Lee, who worked together on the first film, have returned for the second installment.
According to Movie News Guide, the promotion of homosexuality may be inserted in the sequel's plot. It seems that Disney may risk tackling social issues in the much-awaited animated musical. Some rumors point to Elsa being the center of the new film's events as a homosexual woman.
Director Chris Buck and writer Jennifer Lee are reportedly jumping aboard for the second film. According to Movie Pilot, no specific details have been released at the present except that they are both excited for the project. Buck revealed, "We will tackle other issues that, I think, are out there today that boys and girls, men and women, are dealing with. I think we're very aware of what is happening in society. When the kids watch [Disney movies], they watch them over and over again, and if we don't have a decent message in there, I think we've missed an opportunity."
The duo said that they already had a creative concept and that it was a strong one. The first film reportedly left a big impact on the LGBT community - especially young girls - due to its messages of acceptance and love. Buck and Lee revealed that 'Frozen 2' will feature more of Elsa and her character development after a life of isolation presented in the first film.
According to iDigitalTimes, the first film's hit song 'Let It Go' was a commentary on "coming out" into society. Its plot also deviated from the usual Disney concoction of the damsel in distress in favor of sisterly solidarity. It was speculated that 'Frozen 2' will focus on Elsa and her looming same-sex love interest.
'Frozen 2' is a planned animated film that will serve as a sequel to the highly popular blockbuster hit from 2013. Its predecessor, produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures, earned $1.2 billion in the box office and garnered critical acclaim. It featured the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff and Santino Fontana.
