'Silence' is an upcoming historical drama film by acclaimed director Martin Scorcese. Lead actor Liam Neeson explained the reason behind his dramatic weight loss as the first official photograph showing him 20 lbs. lighter was released. Scorcese is reportedly aiming for a 2016 Cannes Film Festival premiere.
According to Film School Rejects, Paramount released the first photograph of Liam Neeson as Portuguese priest Father Cristovao Ferreira in Martin Scorcese's upcoming historic drama film. The 63-year old actor is best known for his hulky action-packed role as Bryan Mills in the blockbuster cinematic series 'Taken'. In the newly released image, Neeson appeared gaunt to the point of being unrecognizable.
Neeson reportedly lost 20 lbs. for his new role and explained the dramatic shift in physique during an interview at the Los Cabos Film Festival, according to the Independent. He said, "Martin [Scorcese] wanted us all to look a bit more gaunt, which Adam [Diver] and Andrew [Garfield] did as well. I know Adam went to the extreme. He's an ex-marine and when he's given an order, he follows it through. He was like something out of Auschwitz." Neeson added that Scorcese's dedication to his projects demanded absolute discipline on-set.
Neeson and producer Gaston Pavlovich attended the preview for 'Silence' at the Los Cabos Film Festival. According to Collider, Pavlovich revealed that Scorcese was currently in the mid-stages of the editing process and that they were aiming for a final edit of "two hours and ten minutes". He added that they hoped to debut the film at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival that will take place in May 11-22, 2016.
Production officially began in Taipei on January 2015 where a magnitude 6.1 earthquake took the life of one of the CMPC studios' contractor's employees after the collapse of building's ceiling. The project came together in 2009 but underwent a hiatus since Scorcese prioritized other films such as 'Hugo' and 'Shutter Island'.

It is scheduled for release sometime in 2016 under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Martin Scorcese.
