'Blade Runner 2' will feature Ryan Gosling in the lead role. The actor recently confirmed his involvement in director Denis Villeneuve's upcoming reboot. He will star alongside original actor Harrison Ford.
According to Collider, Ryan Gosling confirmed his involvement in the upcoming reboot of Sir Ridley Scott's iconic neo-noir film from the 1980s. Although he remained mum on details of the new film's plot, he announced that he has officially signed on for the Denis Villeneuve-Roger Deakins collaboration. The Hollywood heartthrob confirmed that he would be shooting 'Blade Runner 2' next since he has just wrapped up his latest film 'The Nice Guys' with co-stars Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger.
When asked about the film, Gosling joked, "It's exciting... there's a chip in me that will explode if I say anything else." Another article from BBC stated that Gosling will star alongside the original lead actor Harrison Ford in the new film. Ford played police officer Rick Deckard in the first film released in 1982.
The original film was directed by Ridley Scott, who will be returning to the reboot as producer. According to the Daily Mail, the filmmaker earlier revealed that Ford expressed his enthusiasm to return for four new films in the series' shared universe. Ford even considered the new script to be the best he's ever read.
Scott hinted that 'Blade Runner 2' will be set in the distant future. He said, "(The original) was 2017, so coming back it'll be 2047, roughly. As young as you can play Ryan Gosling... He's 34, but he looks 27 when he's doing his push-ups. So maybe 2050." Fans of the 80s cult hit were also given confirmation that the main protagonist Deckard is indeed a "replicant".
'Blade Runner 2' is a planned science-fiction film to serve as a sequel to Ridley Scott's dystopian cult favorite from the 1980s. Denis Villeneuve, acclaimed director of 'Sicario', will helm the upcoming film with Oscar-winning cinematographer Roger Deakins. The preceding film debuted on June 25, 1982 and grossed $33 million against a $28 million budget, according to Box Office Mojo.
