'Baywatch' has cast Alexandra Daddario in one of the leading roles as Summer Quinn originally played by Nicole Eggert. She will star alongside Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron in the much-anticipated big-screen reboot directed by Seth Gordon. Efron admitted on Late Night with Seth Meyers that he wasn't a fan of the original series.

According to The Daily Mail, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson revealed that his 'San Andreas' co-star Alexandra Daddario has landed a much-coveted role in the upcoming 'Baywatch' reboot directed by Seth Gordon. The two worked together in 2015's disaster film that also starred Paul Giamatti, Carla Gugino and Archie Panjabi.

The professional wrestler-turned-Hollywood superstar announced the news on his personal Instagram account captioned, "IT'S OFFICIAL: Want to welcome the talented and gorgeous @alexannadaddario to the cast of #BAYWATCH for the role of "Summer". Alex is a one of kind woman (I know from experience) and can't wait for you guys to see her own the role."

Johnson added that more casting announcements will follow soon enough, including the actress chosen to play the iconic role of CJ Parker who was portrayed by Pamela Anderson in the original series. He said, "The female roles of #BAYWATCH have become extremely hot properties around Hollywood and as promised, the quality women we'll cast are stepping into these roles to have fun and make them iconic for the world to enjoy."

It was reported by ScreenCrush that Daddario was one of the multitude of actresses who underwent screen testing for a leading lady role. The other talents shortlisted for the part include 'Vampire Diaries' lead Nina Dobrev, Ashley Benson of 'Spring Breakers', Alexandra Shipp of the upcoming 'X-Men: Apocalypse', Shelley Henning of 'Teen Wolf', Bianca Santos of 'The Duff' and Denyse Tontz of 'Big Time Rush'. Daddario is slated to play Summer Quinn in the remake of the hit television series from the 1980s centered on the life of Los Angeles County lifeguards.

Zac Efron of 'High School Musical Fame' was cast to star alongside Johnson, according to the Mirror. The actor went on Late Night with Seth Meyers and admitted that he couldn't remember much of the old 'Baywatch' except that he knew Anderson and David Hasselhoff were in it. He promised that the remake will be as fantastic as the old beach series and that he wanted to keep up with Johnson and his vision.

'Baywatch' is a planned reboot of the hit television series of the same name created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonnan. It ran from 1989 to 2001 and contained 11 seasons with a total of 242 episodes. Johnson is slated to replace Hasselhoff's character as main lifeguard Mitch Buchannon.
