'Blindspot' Updates: Showrunner reveals David’s death was intentional, teases mid-season finale episode will be the most emotional yet

By

David's unexpected departure in episode nine may come as a shock to "Blindspot" viewers but creator Martin Gero says that this was all a part of their plan and further adds that the mid-season ender may get a little too intense and dramatic.

NBC's hit series "Blindspot" is almost approaching its mid-season break but this show isn't stepping on the brake in terms of twists and surprises. To begin, last week's episode entitled "Authentic Flirt" featured not one but two deaths of integral characters in the series. One of them is the villainous syndicate leader Saul (portrayed by actor Lou Diamond Philips) whose demise fell into the hands of another antagonistic character named Carter.

The other death, which utterly shocked viewers and fans alike, goes to David (played by Joe Dinicol) - the persistent and ever loyal love interest of Patterson (Ashley Johnson). According to The Christian Post, David's fall from grace stems from his attempt to win Patterson back - to a point that he went on deciphering one of Jane's tattoos with his guard down. This led to an encounter in a dark alley with an agent who looks like one of Bethany's (Marianne Jean-Baptiste) underlings.

Although unfortunate, showrunner Martin Gero tells Variety that casualties such as David are very normal to have and has been all thought out as a part of how the series progresses.

"For us, part of the fun of the show is people are going to die. It is a dangerous, dangerous thing that they're doing and it helps the show maintain an air of unpredictability," Gero explains.

Worry not though, as David's death will be one of the focal points of the mid-season ender before the show wraps up temporarily, Gero tells Entertainment Weekly in a separate interview. He even describes the finale as the show's most emotional yet.

"It's our most emotional episode. It's one of our biggest episodes. What's great about this show is that every case has personal stakes for our characters, but finding David's killer is extraordinarily important to everyone," Gero said.

Looks like there's still a lot to look forward to in the show even on its last two episodes! Check out more action-packed drama from "Blindspot" - Mondays, 10 PM on NBC.
