Pre-production has started for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, and Zoe Saldana recently shared on Twitter how she transforms to Gamora. Meanwhile, director James Gunn also revealed the first look at Star-Lord's mask.

The characters of Star-Lord, Gamora, Raccoon, and Groot are set to return in the upcoming sequel and with filming set to begin in February, pre-production is in full swing for the project. As reported by Screen Rant, Saldana has revealed the preparation for her character via Twitter when she posted a photo of her face and neck being covered with a light green substance.

The procedure Saldana underwent was to create a facial cast, which will help the make-up team of the film come up with appropriate prosthetics for the character. Aside from Gamora, Star-Lord's character is also being worked on.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly, director James Gunn revealed a snapshot of the early version of Star-Lord's mask. Gunn revealed the photos in Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook of what looks like sculpted version of the mask formed, and with the red big eyes. "#fbf Very early version of the Star-Lord mask. I wanted the eyes to be big, as if he was perpetually surprised, not your regular hero. We might have overdone it a bit here. #GotG #flashbackfriday", Gunn wrote on Instagram.

The director also revealed recently that the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be a story about fathers, which confirms that Peter Quill/Star-Lord's father will be unveiled. As stated in another report by Screen Rant, rumors subsequently surfaced suggesting that the Mar-Vell version of Captain Marvel could he Star-Lord's father basing on the fact that the protagonist's mother died of cancer which was also the cause of Mar-Vell's death in the comics.

However, Gunn settled the rumor via Facebook. Without stating the person being speculated to be the Peter's father, Gunn stated that "the rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth". " I don't know how people come up with this stuff, but it certainly isn't through legitimate sources", he added.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to be directed and written by Gunn. Aside from Saldana, Chris Pratt is also set to reprise his role as Star-Lord, along with Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper who will voice Groot and Raccoon respectively. The sequel is expected to debut in theaters on May 05, 2017.
