The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge under T-Mobile carrier can now install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. This may be a preparation as they are also scheduled to obtain the latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.
According to Tech Times, Samsung Electronics has unveiled the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy Note Edge at the IFA in September 2014. It was recalled that both phablets came out of the box running on Android 4.4. KitKat so T-Mobile is now rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop software update to the two Samsung handsets.
Based on the T-Mobile's support page, the Galaxy Note 4 software version will jump to N910TUVU2DOK2 or N910T3UVU1DOK2 while the Note Edge's software version to N915TUVU2COK2.
Furthermore, TmoNews cited the change logs for the update. The software will be changed into Lthe ollipop OS 5.1.1 version, adding new features such as RCS, Video call (IR.94), Smart Manager and Samsung+, as well as improving the device's overall device performance. The battery life and security of Samsung Note will also be optimized. Users of the Note 4 and Note Edge, however, should upgrade the Gear Fit Manager app to the latest version to experience these changes.
Owners of these phablets should remember that after updating, they will not be able to downgrade to the old software because of the updates to the security policy. If their devices are encrypted, it must be decrypted before upgrading.
iDigitalTimes stated on its article that the updates will be sent over the air (OTA), which means the Android Lollipop 5.1.1 upgrade should reach the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge handsets wirelessly. Users should be prompted to update their phablets automatically once the software hits. But they can also try to check it manually by going to Settings > More > About Device > Software Update to see whether it is already available.
With the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop now rolling out to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge units, the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update might hopefully be the next update to arrive. But for the meantime, the owners of these handsets should enjoy the changes and developments that the Lollipop update brings to their phablets.
