'Kong: Skull Island' is an upcoming adventure-fantasy film starring Tom Hiddleston in the lead role. The actor hinted at the plot saying that they have scrapped the 1930's setting. He joins director Jordan Vogt-Roberts for filming in Hawaii, which will continue in Australia.
According to Variety, Tom Hiddleston revealed that the new addition to the monster franchise will not be set in the 1930s. He hinted, "There's no movie director with a map. There's no out-of-work actress down on her luck. All of that stuff is respected, we're just trying to do something new with the myth because Kong is an icon of movies. I think he's someone people want to see again." The leading actor referenced several plot lines from previous films - specifically Peter Jackson's version in 2005 - and said that although they will stay true to the mythology of King Kong, it would be a different story altogether.
The 34-year old English actor began filming with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts in the island of Oahu in Hawaii last October 19. According to Scified, Hiddleston recounted the first few days of shooting on ft.com. An excerpt of Hiddleston's experience read, "...In actual fact, the lens of a camera locked on to a frame of my eyes, focused intently and intensely into a deep, dizzying, almost hallucinogenic expanse of green screen, with only my imagination as fuel to the fire. But that's what I love about acting. It is, and will forever be, a childlike act of imagining... King Kong is back."
It was reported that the full article in Tom's Diary revealed his various experiences on working on the new project. Basing on his descriptions and observations, it was speculated that the upcoming film may be bigger in production in comparison to the 2005 version of the classic.
Hiddleston will play the lead protagonist. He is joined by Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell, Jason Mitchell, John C. Reilly, Corey Hawkins, Samuel L. Jackson and John Goodman. According to Blastr, Hiddleston will portray an explorer venturing deep into the jungles of Kong's home, Skull Island. He has set out on a journey in hopes of finding his lost brother as well as a mystical serum that supposedly cures all kinds of ailments and diseases.
'Kong: Skull Island' is an upcoming reboot of the classic cinematic series featuring the legendary gigantic gorilla. The character appeared in various media in as early as 1933. The latest film will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written for the big screen by Max Borenstein, Derek Connolly, John Gatins and Dan Gilroy.
