The OnePlus 2 has received great reviews and is catching up in popularity, but the availability of the handset has been a challenge. However, that changed recently.
Prior to this week, OnePlus had sold the OnePlus 2 through an 'arcane system' of reservation lists and invitations, according to Wired. As the supply could not meet the growing demand, the company behind the phone has made changes to the availability of the OnePlus 2.
The reason for the invite system, says OnePlus co-founder, Carl Pei, has been to help ensure that the company grows at a sustainable rate. The system ensured that every phone the company created would have a corresponding buyer - a pretty safe move for the relatively young phone manufacturing comapny. However, starting December 5, aspiring owners of the OnePlus 2 will no longer need an invite to get the phone and can start ordering them just like any other phone.
According to the OnePlus Blog, "Speaking of cheer, we're ringing in the holiday spirit by making it much simpler to give the gift of OnePlus this year. Starting at midnight on December 5, not only will the OnePlus 2 will be invite-free forever."
According to First Post Tech, the company is also planning an open sale for the OnePlus X smartphone for users in India, but the plans have not yet been finalised nor officially announced.
The OnePlus X is still on an invite basis, but one way to get the invite is to purchase the latest iPhone 6 case from OnePlus, which got a significant amount of noise last week, considering that the OnePlus X is being closely compared with the iPhone 6s.
The OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset and a Quad-core 1.56 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 1.82 GHz Cortex-A57 CPU.
