The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update was recently made available for Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 obtains the same upgrade but via custom ROM.

According to Neurogadget, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge that are under T-Mobile are finally getting the latest Android Lollipop OTA upgrade. These two handsets were noted to have arrived with Android KitKat. Other carriers such as AT&T and Sprint have updated them to Android 5.0.1 and now to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. Finally, T-Mobile carrier has now been added to that list and the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update isalready being rolled out to its Note 4 and Note Edge units.

The latest Android Lollipop over-the-air software for the Galaxy Note Edge comes with the build number N915TUVU2COK2 and has a 150MB file size. On the other hand, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OTA update for the Galaxy Note 4 arrives with the build number N910TUVU2DOK2 (678MB) or N910T3UVU1DOK2 (224MB).

The OTA update for both the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge come with a Video Calling and Advanced Messaging feature. These are very useful if users want to get in touch with someone else that is connected on T-Mobile and has a compatible device.

Moreover, Realty Today reported that the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can be upgraded to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via SmokkieROM's custom ROM. Only a rooted Note 3 device though can be upgraded to 5.1.1 version. As of the moment, Galaxy Note 3 can be updated to version 5.0 of Lollipop OTA.

Christian Today stated the step-by-step procedure on how to install the Lollipop update to Galaxy Note 3.

The first thing to do is to download the zip files of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Custom ROM by SmokkieROM and Google Apps to a PC. Next, users will have to connect their Galaxy Note 3 and copy the files to the phone's microSD card. Then, they have to disconnect their handsets and turn it off and enter recovery mode by pressing and holding Home+Power+Volume up buttons.

Owners of Galaxy Note 3 should perform a full data wipe by choosing the wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, go to the advanced option and tap wipe dalvik cache. After that, users should go to the main recovery screen and choose install zip from SD card by selecting Android Lollipop custom ROM by SmokkieROM. Once the custom ROM has been installed, choose the Google Apps zip and simply reboot their handsets.

Now that Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is already available to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and Note Edge, this may indicate that these handsets will be receiving the Android Marshmallow next. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 owners may experience the same upgrade via custom ROM but they have to keep in mind that the installation of this firmware needs knowledge and technical know-how.
