Based on a post made by Mo Versi, HTC'S VP for Production Management, HTC One A9 is confirmed to receive the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. HTC One M9 is also expected to obtain Google's latest mobile operating system.
According to Phondroid, Android 6.0.1 is now the latest version of Android and with that, smartphone makers like Samsung, LG, and HTC have officially been put on notice. It's only a matter of time before the newest update will be seen on handsets and striking in on the issue is HTC Product Manager Mo Versi.
Since Mo is knowledgeable how badly everyone is looking forward to this big new emoji update which is the most notable changes in the OS update, he took a minute to tell everyone through his status that both HTC One M9 and HTC One A9 will receive upgrades.
According to him, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still on track for the unlocked One M9 before the end of the month, together with Android 6.0.1 for the One A9. This update only applies to unlocked versions of both devices and those bought from a carrier store would take a little or even a lot longer to get the update as it still needs the carrier's approval.
Additionally, Pocketnow stated that beyond the emoji support, the update will also bring a tweaked UI for tablets, improved do-not-disturb-options, and new camera quick-launch functionality for older devices. There are surely a lot of good stuff all around but when exactly it will hit the units is still indefinite. HTC is already speaking out about its own update timetable, and its goal for fast One A9 updates seems like it will proceed exactly as planned.
Android Police reported that Android 6.0.1 factory images just became available indicating that HTC theoretically have until December 22 to comply on its promise. But it turns out that HTC later asterisked this promise as fifteen business days, giving the Taiwanese tech company until December 25th or 28th, depending on how they choose to count. It may also depend on whether they mean US business days, in which case the Christmas holiday may technically extend that out to the 29th.
With Mo Versi confirming the arrival of Android 6.0.1 to HTC One A9 and Android 6.0 Marshmallow to One M9, this sounds like a treat for owners of the said units. As for carrier versions, details around those devices will hopefully materialize after the unlocked variants' update roll out.
