Vikings Season 4 is set to premiere on February 2016 and a lot of speculations regarding Ragnar and his death have surrounded the show. Betrayal is seen as one of the factors affecting Ragnar's death. Ragnar is going to face a tough decision regarding his friend Floki. Meanwhile, Dick Hoogstra is positive about the fans' interest on the series even without Ragnar.
The official trailer for Vikings Season 4 has shown different characters who are in a way vying for the throne once Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) dies. The narration is based mostly from Bible verses and is read by Athelstan (George Blagden).
According to Crossmap, these verses are like prophesies on the lives of the characters and how their stories will unfold. The verse "one generation passes away, and another generation comes" could mean the end of Ragnar's throne and the beginning of a new leadership under one of his sons, Bjorn or Ivar, or even one of his wives, Aslaugh and Lagertha.
Another striking verse is "what profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?" which could depict betrayal. It has been noted that Ragnar's brother Rollo (Clive Standen) betrayed him and is most likely that he might do it again. There is also a possibility of killing Ragnar for the throne by whoever wants it.
Meanwhile, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), Ragnar's childhood friend who killed Athelstan, will finally face his past and Ragnar will have to choose between saving him or punishing him.
Vikings creator Michael Hirst is confident that the remainder of the cast would be able to hold on to the gripping storyline of the show when it premieres next season, according to Master Herald. History Channel's general manager Dick Hoogstra is also optimistic about the show's future even without Ragnar because the TV series has established itself as one of the most compelling and visually stunning dramas on television today.
Vikings Season 4 will air February 2016 on History Channel.
