Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Update For Nexus 5, 6, 7, 9 Adds Camera Quick Launch and New Emojis

By

Google recently unveiled the factory images of the newest Marshmallow update for its Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update will bring a camera quick launch and new emojis to these handsets.

According to International Business Times, the new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a build version of MMB29K has been made available to Huawei Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 (2014), Nexus 5 (2013), Nexus 7 (2013 and Nexus 9 (2014) while another version MMB29M has been released to Nexus Player (set-top-box).

The upgrade brings around 200 Unicode 9 Emojis and new navigation bar for tablets. The back and home buttons have been moved to the left, while the overview button has been shifted to the right.

The new v6.0.1 brings back the until next time option to Do Not Disturb feature. This was first seen in the Android's v5.1 but was removed in the Android v6.0.

The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow also brings security patches and bug-fixes. But it is not yet determined whether the company has incorporated fix for the display bug affecting Nexus 5X, 6P and Nexus Player or not.

Phone Arena reported that it appears to be just like with stock Android 6.0 on the new Nexus 5X and 6P. Those old devices are getting the quick launch option to double-press the power button to jump straight into the camera at any time. In theory, this will basically make it faster to jump to the camera, no matter what the users are doing on their device, especially one-handed. But unfortunately, in practice, the gesture can be a bit fussy. Since it is tied to the power button, it is seen on the Nexus 6P that the camera may launch, but the device will go to sleep, or the device will go to sleep without launching the camera at all. And, if users have extra security on their lock screen, there can be oddness there wherein it asks owners to unlock when they should just go straight into the camera.

Meanwhile, the arrival of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for the newly released Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X will bring support for LTE Band 12 on T-Mobile for both handsets. This will enable VoLTE support on Nexus smartphones and tablets.

Currently, the Android 6.0.1 update is only available for Nexus devices. But the search engine giant is working with OEM partners like Samsung, Motorola and HTC to start the roll out of Android 6.0.1 build.

With the availability of Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow to Nexus 5, 6, 7 and 9, other handsets from different smartphone makers will hopefully receive the same upgrade soon. Meanwhile, users of the other devices from other OEMs still have to wait for further announcements for the OS release.
