The pilot season of American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson is all set to premiere next year. The storyline for the first season will tackle on O.J. Simpson's high-profile murder case as seen in the recently released trailer and Cuba Gooding Jr. will play the lead role. Meanwhile, John Travolta returns to TV since Welcome Back, Kotter.
The case of O.J. Simpson is dubbed as the "Trial of the Century" and the new crime anthology series will provide a more detailed description through the eyes of the lawyers. The series is based on the book by Jeffrey Toobin entitled "The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson" and produced by Ryan Murphy and Brad Flachuk of American Horror Story.
The trailer shows the Bronco chase with Simpson at the back seat, the trial and the personalities involved including Simpson's defense lawyer and close friend Robert Kardashian, played by David Schwimmer, Robert's wife and Nicole's best friend Kris Kardashian, played by Selma Blair, head prosecutor Marcia Clark, played by Sarah Paulson and defense lawyer Robert Shapiro, played by John Travolta.
According to Movie TV Tech Geeks, the series is set to become an anthology just as with American Horror Story, which has been a huge hit for FX. Thus, after the 10-episode first season covering the O.J. trial, subsequent seasons will feature other notable crime cases from American history.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Cuba Gooding Jr. reveals how he prepared for his role as O.J. Simpson. Aside from Simpson's mannerisms, Gooding Jr. also studied the character in a deeper level.
"I looked at footage of him in that time period, got an essence of that, but I wanted to know what he thought about certain things in this life and then I formed an emotional core," Gooding Jr. said.
Meanwhile, producer Nina Jacobson felt very happy with John Travolta on board. She reveals in the same post that Travolta did not say yes immediately to the offer to play the role of Robert Shapiro.
"Once I introduced him to Ryan, they hit it off ... once they connected I think John saw that he would be in very good hands and he trusted me. But it did take him a really long time to deliberate about whether to do it," Jacobson said.
American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson will premiere on February 2, 2016 at 10pm on FX.
