The latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update complete with new emojis arrived to Android One devices. Google promised to deliver faster update rollouts to Android One devices for better security.
Google began rolling out the latest update to its firmware, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. NDTV Gadgets reported that the Micromax Canvas A1, Cherry Mobile One, i-mobiles IQ II, General Mobile 4G, and other Android One handsets have started receiving the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA update.
More Android One devices like the Karbonn Sparkle V and Lava Pixel V1 are expected to get the update soon. The latest Marshmallow OTA update for Android One devices has a download size of 75.6MB and bumps up the build number to MMB29K.
Google added new sets of emojis with support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emojis to the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update for Android One. Security patches for December, bug fixes, and overall enhancements are also included in the update.
Google promised to prioritize Android One devices in update rollouts. It is possible that the search giant wants to improve the security of Android devices through frequent updates.
It is believed that Google will make a major update that will be named Android 6.1 Marshmallow as per Neurogadget. The said update could come in early 2016.
The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update has also rolled out to Google Nexus devices as per The Times of India. Google posted on its Nexus Google+ page that new emojis will be added to Nexus phones.
The update brings a slew of improvements to Nexus devices. With a simple tap and hold, users can bring up contextual assistance to do tasks simultaneously. Another battery feature included in the update is Doze. When the device is not used, Doze mode lets the phone sleep to save more battery.
Along with new emojis, the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update brings a new Google Keyboard with a new layout. Navigation in tablets is also much easier, thanks to the addition of "home" and "back" buttons.
