'Major Crimes' Renewal Update: TNT’s Crime Procedural Confirmed to Return for a Fifth Season

By

Major Crimes is here to stay. TNT has officially renewed the crime procedural for a fifth season on Tuesday. The cable network has given a 10-episode order on the show’s upcoming new season. Its current fourth season, meanwhile, airs every Monday at 9PM on TNT.

As reported by Deadline, the upcoming fifth season of Major Crimes is slated to premiere in the summer of 2016. Meanwhile, TNT has also renewed The Librarians and Murder in the First for third seasons. The trio will now join previously renewed Rizzoli & Isles and The Last Ship.
In 2016, new drama series Good Behavior, Animal Kingdom and The Alienist will join the veteran shows of TNT.

As for shows which didn’t make the cut, TV Guide reported that Sharon Stone's Agent X, Sean Bean's Legends and Public Morals will no longer return for a second run. According to the publication, this brings the cable net’s cancellation count this year up to 6 – with Falling Skies, Perception and Proof included.

Major Crimes, which stars two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell, debuted on TNT in 2012. It follows the special unit of the Los Angeles Police Department and their detectives responsible for tracking high-profile crimes.

In other Major Crimes news, series star Kearran Giovanni – who plays Det. Amy Sykes -- celebrated her birthday on Thursday. The actress shared a behind-the-scenes photo with co-star Malcolm Jamal War on Twitter, she said: “Birthday workin with this guy!! #luckygirl #MajorCrimes #AmysArmy @MalcolmJamalWar.”

Now that Major Crimes has been renewed for a shortened fifth season, it will be a critical run for the series next year. Hopefully, the James Duff-produced drama can perform better to hit the ‘sure thing’ renewal prediction after season five.

An all new episode of Major Crimes titled “Penalty” will air on Monday, Dec. 21 on TNT.
