Android 6.0 Marshmallow update is now available to Motorola Moto G (2013) smartphones as CyanogenMod has made available its CM 13 to the device. The upgrade brings in primarily an impressive theme engine to the phone.
Moto G (2013) will get an unofficial update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow through custom build CyanogenMod 13 following being excludedfrom the official list of Motorola. Marshmallow's custom software has been geared up to provide the first generation of Moto G a host of additional features on top of Marshmallow's original set.
Before installing the CM 13 ROM, CyanogenMod reminds device owners to clear up storage space of the device and back up necessary files since the build will wipe out all the data stored in the phone. Also, make sure that the device is charged to at least 80 percent to prevent power interruption which is a primary cause to damage phone.
Further, here are some requirements before one can download CM 13 to Moto G (2013):
1. An unlocked boatloader;
2. A custom recovery like ClockWorkMod (CWM) and TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP); and
3. A rooted phone.
To proceed with the download, here's a quick rundown to install CM 13 to Moto G (2013):
1. Download the CM 13 Marshmallow ROM and Google Apps Package.
2. Save it on a PC.
3. Connect phone to PC using a cable.
4. Copy the downloaded files from PC to phone.
5. Disconnect phone and shut it down.
6. Boot into recovery mode by simultaneously press holding volume up, home and power buttons.
7. Perform a Nandroid backup of your current software.
8. Perform wipe data tasks.
9. Install zip from sdcard.
10. Confirm flashing process.
11. Go to main recovery menu.
12. Restart device.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow of CyanogenMod is exclusively available to Moto G's Flacon models. Installing the ROM to other devices might damage them and would cause disqualification from warranty. To check the phone model, go to Settings > About phone.
