Android 6.0 Marshmallow update can now be installed to some smartphones and tablets through Dirty Unicorns and Chroma, two of the most reliable custom ROMs in the Android community. Both software focus on providing improvements in battery life, system stability and bring more expansions.
Dirty Unicorns and Chroma being on top of their game, offer a ton of improvements based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow software to a list of handsets, which includes Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, One M9, Google Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Motorola Moto G (2014), among others.
Chroma ROM developed through the Android 6.0 Marshmallow Android Open Source Project (AOSP) focuses on giving Google Nexus devices a more stable system and an improved performance. The devices include Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 7 (2012), Nexus 7 (2013) and Nexus 10. However, the ROM has been criticized for ripping off other people's pledges.
Dirty Unicorns on the other hand is the more established ROM. It goes beyond just copying Marshmallow by bringing several changes and additions. Basically, it modifies the appearance of the build to give users the liberty to enjoy a huge part of customization.
It also offers tweaks to the following features:
- A double tap to sleep and wake device
- OmniSwitch floating toolbar
- Disable immersive mode messages
- Expanded power menu
- Data flow indicators
- Ad blocker
- Quick Settings
- Clock changes
The build is available to Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy S5, Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3, LG G4, LG G3, LG G2, HTC One M9, HTC One M8, Motorola Moto G (2014) and Moto X (2014), among many others.
It is important to take Note that like the official software, custom ROMs have prerequisites before being able to download them. Here's some:
1. An unlocked boatloader;
2. A custom recovery like ClockWorkMod (CWM) and TeamWin Recovery Project (TWRP); and
3. A rooted phone.
Custom ROMs are also available to brands like Xiaomi, Asus, Lenovo and OnePlus.
