MH370 search operations extend to Indian Ocean

Malaysia Airlines MH370 flight is still nowhere in sight despite efforts of Malaysian authorities along with 13 other countries. In a report from WSJ, the jet transponder of the airline might have been intentionally turned off by the pilot or somebody else. This opened another possibility of a hijack or the pilot himself did the dramatic measure.

Further investigations from the US team said that it suspected that the Boeing 777 may have flown for several hours. This was after it went missing an hour after it flew from Kuala Lumpur heading to Beijing. Due to these suggestions, the search for the mysterious disappearance of the airplane had been extended westwards to the Indian Ocean.

In a statement, White House spokesman Jay Carney said that the new information would mean that the vast areas that were already scoured needed to be extended yet again. Carney added that the US was in consultation with Malaysia regarding what resources should be directed to the area.

India joined the search operation and was asked by Malaysian authorities to ask 22 specific locations. These locations were in the Andaman Sea which Indian officials said would take about 3 days to conduct search operations.
