Oscar Pistorius, the double amputee athlete who have won numerous Olympic medals, would have to testify for the second time regarding the murder of Reeva Steenkamp. The trial was set in South Africa following rulings on Pistorius nationality.
The case would be decided by a judge in a South African court, aided by two evaluators.
The testimony of Pistorius was highly emotional, reported BBC. He opened his testimony while in tears asking for the forgiveness of Steenkamp’s family over her death. Pistorius shot his partner Steenkamp last year while she has inside the toilet. Pistorius denied the allegations that he had shot her to death on purpose. In his statement, Pistorius said that there was an intruder inside the house prompting him to fire a shot.
The athlete could end up serving life sentence once he is found guilty of the murder charges pressed against him.
Pistorius also expressed grief in his testimony while addressing Steenkamp’s family members. He said, "I can't imagine the pain and the sorrow and the emptiness that I've caused you and your family.”
His lawyer called for the trial to be adjourned and rescheduled following Pistorius’ outbreak of emotions, reported BBC.
