Since Cote de Pablo's Ziva David left "NCIS" Season 11 last October, fans of the hit police procedural drama have been wondering if her character will ever reunite with Michael Weatherly's Anthony "Tony" DiNozzo. Enstarz recently reported what its show-runner and director have to say about it.
Executive producer Gary Glasberg recently teased fans telling TVGuide.com that he is "sure" the two characters will cross paths again.
Dennis Smith, the show's recurring director, also recently took to Twitter on August 3 to tease a possible Ziva return in the series. "Just talking about 'Truth or Consequences' with Mr. Weatherly and Mr. Stern the other night over a nice bottle of wine," he wrote.
"Truth or Consequences" was the title of the premiere episode of NCIS' seventh season back in 2009. The episode focused on Ziva's rescue following months of captivity, where Tony risked his life to save her.
"Mr. Stern," who was mentioned in Smith's tweet refers to scribe Jesse Stern, who also tweeted fans about the possible follow-up of the episode. His tweet reads, "Hi #TivaCamp2014 been thinking a little bit about a follow up to Truth or Consequences lately. Think that'd be fun?"
However, Glasberg also previously hinted fans of a new female character that will be coming to Tony's life. According to the show-runner, the new character will appear around the fourth episode of the new season. Tony will meet her through a special case and according to Air Herald, the two will have a "completely different chemistry."
Glasberg said that it's time for the character to "grow a little bit." "He went through a lot last year emotionally and tried to deal with Ziva's departure as he could," he added.
Meanwhile, one of the several actors joining the cast for the upcoming season is former NFL player Tony Gonzalez. The retired athlete will be guest starring in an episode with Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon).
Gonzalez recently posted in Instagram a picture of him with Weatherly and Emily Wickersham (Ellie Bishop). The caption reads, "Guest-starring on #NCIS this fall. Had a great time with Mark Harmon, @m_weatherly& @emilywickersham and even got to take over Gibbs desk."
"NCIS" Season 12 will premiere on Sept. 23 at 8/7c.
