It was announced earlier in this year's EVO (Evolution Championship Series) that Bandai Namco are planning to release the next game of their fighting game series "Tekken." Game director Katsuhiro Harada also announced the upcoming entry to the Tekken franchise will come to next generation consoles and PC, and revealed the new Tekken 7 trailer during this year's annual EVO.
When the trailer was first shown, it was revealed that the game would be using the Unreal 4 Engine and that it would be coming to next generation consoles namely the PS4 and XBOX One. However, the development team and the director himself haven't disclosed when the game will actually be slated for release.
Mr. Harada later said that there will be more updates about the game at Comic Con, and sure enough, he delivered. Polygon reported that the game director revealed new information in their Comic Con panel about the story such as more background into the Mishima Clan saga and he even said that Tekken 7 will finally tie-up loose ends explaining the mysteries of the Tekken universe.
During the Comic-Con panel, the development team also revealed the concept art of various characters like Lars Alexandersson and a new Arabian fighter on their Facebook page. Katsuhiro Harada also said that they are "still formulating the basic gameplay system and polishing them" but also added that Tekken 7 will use the one-on-one format and not the tag-team format of the Tekken Tag series.
In other good news, the team also said they also invited various artists to create new and interesting character designs for the game. Polygon reported that guest artists will include Mari Shimazaki from "Bayonetta," Yusuke Kozaki from "No More Heroes" and "Fire Emblem Awakening," Ninnin from "Duel Masters" and "Vanguard," and Kenichiro Yoshimura from "Anarchy Reigns."
As stated earlier, Tekken 7 will be using Unreal 4 Engine which is not only a more powerful engine which would improve gameplay and graphics. And in a bold move, the Tekken series is finally coming to the PC platform with Tekken 7, according to this interview with KDramaStars. Taka Kawasaki, studio head of Epic Games Japan even went out to say that the PC will be the main platform when developing Tekken 7.
Bandai Namco has recently confirmed that fans will have to wait a little longer and that the game will most likely be released at the end of 2015 for PS4, XBOX One, and PC.
