"Arrow" will be welcoming a new character into the fold. Austin Butler will join the cast to play the new love interest of Thea Queen, played by Willa Holland. As for Oliver and Felicity, the romance between the two will be addressed, but will not become the focus in season three.
According to Movie Pilot, Butler will be portraying the role of a DJ. He will have a professional relationship with Thea at first, but the relationship will quickly turn romantic, says the article. CW55tv.com shares that Butler's character will be named Chase, a recurring character to be introduced in the seventh episode.
The end of season two left questions on what will happen to Holland's character, as Thea Queen is seen leaving with Malcolm Merlyn, her biological father. However, this news about her being involved with a DJ could mean she will return and take the reins of club Verdant once again, thinks Movie Pilot. The circumstances of her coming back still remain in the dark, and the ownership of the club and Oliver Queen's bankruptcy may mean Thea will use Merlyn's money.
The presence of a new love interest for Thea also presents plenty of questions with her relationship with Roy. According to Movie Pilot, there is sure to be some confrontation between the two when the new season airs. Thea's involvement with Merlyn could also mean she has undergone training. It is possible she is now a part of the League of Assassins. However, her public return might mean she is still a regular girl, says Movie Pilot, asking: "If she has left and been training in secret, why announce her return?"
As for Oliver Queen's love life, Latin Post talks of a new 90-second video that shows the lead character asking Felicity for a date. The romantic relationship between the two will be addressed in season three, but executive producer Greg Berlanti promises that it "won't dominate the season." According to Berlanti in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter, "It doesn't mean it occupies the story and that's all we deal with, but you want to be fair with the audience."
Berlanti also revealed that the romance between Oliver and Felicity has been in the works ever since her first appearance in the show. Season three will also reveal a "lighter side" of Oliver, adds TVOM.
