Gamers are desperately awaiting "The Last of Us 2," the sequel to the unbelievable 2013 smash hit "The Last of Us," but those gamers might have a little bad news coming their way.
According to Naughty Dog and the creators of "The Last of Us," a sequel to the game might not be their top priority.
KpoStarz has the news: those working on the sequel are still evaluating whether they should go through and make it or not; as well, a recent Reddit AMA (that is, a mass interview) with the creators confirms the same. Here's what Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley (creative director and producer, respectively) told Reddit:
"If you're asking about a sequel... right now I'd say it's 50/50."
KpopStarz has a few more quotes that seem to say the same.
"We have such limited resources, and it's a question of where you put the resources," said Druckmann. "It's something where we can have a feel of where the demand is, and where our time is best spent. It's something that we'll figure out as we move forward."
"It's kind of like how we approached Left Behind," he later added. "Can we tell people a story that's really worth telling, and that's not repeating itself? And if we can't, where can we get inspired--what is something that's really going to challenge us, and push storytelling in this medium forward?"
However, a few new details about the game have come to light recently. KDrama Stars has claimed that the second "The Last of Us" game may not focus on Joel and Ellie (the original game's protagonists), and rather on a new set of characters. Of course, all that may rest on whether Naughty Dog decides whether to make the sequel or not.
